Notice Period
Definition
A notice period is the length of time you must work after resigning before your employment formally ends, often one week to three months depending on seniority and contract. It lets your current employer plan a handover and affects how soon you can start a new role. Knowing your notice period helps you negotiate a realistic start date and manage expectations with a new employer during the offer stage.
Usage Example
Because her contract required a three-month notice period, she agreed a later start date with the new company.
