Networking

Definition

Networking is building and maintaining professional relationships that can support your career, from former colleagues to industry contacts you meet online or at events. Many jobs are filled through referrals before they are advertised, so a strong network can open doors that applications alone cannot. Effective networking is reciprocal: offer help and stay in genuine contact rather than reaching out only when you need a job.

Usage Example

Through networking on LinkedIn, he learned about an unadvertised role and was referred by a former colleague.
