A functional CV, also called a skills-based CV, organises your experience around skills and achievements rather than a timeline of jobs. It can help candidates with employment gaps or career changes emphasise relevant abilities over chronology. However, because many recruiters and applicant tracking systems prefer dated work histories, a functional CV should be used carefully and often combined with a brief chronological section.
