Counteroffer
Definition
A counteroffer is a revised proposal made in response to an existing offer, most often when your current employer tries to keep you after you resign by improving your pay or conditions. It can also describe a candidate's reply to a job offer that asks for better terms. Counteroffers deserve careful thought: weigh the money against the reasons you wanted to leave in the first place.
Usage Example
When she handed in her notice, her employer made a counteroffer with a 15 percent raise to keep her.
